Fran S.'s Spicy Chili with Buttermilk Cheese Bread

Fran's original recipe is here:

I made a few changes. Rather than beef, such as the round steak recommended and "lean" pork, I used ground beef and a couple pork steaks. I used 1/2 cup dried red kidney beans, a homemade chili blend (my homemade chili powder, garlic powder, cumin seed, oregano and jalapeno powder) and then threw it all in the slow cooker.http://media-files.gather.com/images/d854/d226/d745/d224/d96/f3/full.jpg
The rest is pretty much as Fran wrote it, other than my habit of not measuring anything.

I cooked it for 1 hour on high and about 4 hours on low and served it with Buttermilk Cheese Bread, the recipe for which can be found here:

This was fantastic! The chili was very hearty, smoky and flavorful. Thanks Fran!http://media-files.gather.com/images/d853/d226/d745/d224/d96/f3/full.jpg
